Snap & Scan

You are standing in front of it.

The best time to find out what a house is worth is the moment you walk past the board, not three days later when you finally get around to searching for it. Photograph the sign. We read it, work out which street you are on, and find the listing.

What happens next: one tap runs the full report on this property, with fair value, comparables and how much room there is to negotiate.

Four steps, about ten seconds of your time

Snap & Scan runs in your phone's browser, so there is nothing to install. Open the page, point the camera at the board, and let it work while you carry on walking.

Photograph the board

Two taps: the board close up so we can read it, then the house so you can recognise it again later.

We work out where you are

Your phone gives us the spot at the moment you take the photo, which narrows the search to the street you are standing in.

We find the listing

A reference or QR code on the board points straight at it. Failing that we match on the agent and the live listings around you, and hand you a shortlist.

Run the full report

Tap the right one and the usual RealTeasy report runs on it: fair value, comparables, area trends and negotiation room.

When we cannot find it

You still get the street.

Some boards are not online yet. Some are private sales. Some have been standing since the property sold months ago. When that happens we tell you straight instead of guessing, and we hand you what we do know about where you are standing: the asking prices on that street right now, how much stock is on the market nearby, and what the Guru has already concluded about the suburb. A snap is never a dead end.

What we read off a board

This part is careful transcription, not guesswork. A wrong reference number points confidently at the wrong house, so anything we cannot read clearly we leave blank rather than invent.

The agency

Which brand is marketing it, straight off the board.

The agent and number

The name and phone number as printed, so you can call before anyone else does.

The reference

A web or mandate reference is a direct line to the listing, which is why we read the board closely.

A QR code

More boards carry one every year, and it is the cleanest match there is.

On show times

A board advertising Sunday viewing and a listing advertising the same is a strong hint they are the same house.

Sold and under offer stickers

Boards outlive sales. If it has already gone, we would rather tell you than pretend.

Who ends up using it most

  • Buyers doing the drive. Everyone house-hunting spends a weekend driving the suburbs they like. Snap every board you pass and sort out which ones are worth a call that evening.
  • Sellers checking the competition. The three boards on your street are the properties a buyer will compare yours against. Now you can see what they are asking.
  • Agents on their own patch. Which stock is sitting, who is marketing it, and what it is priced at, gathered on the school run instead of at a desk.

On every plan, and on no plan at all

Your first snap each day is free

Snap & Scan is not held back for a higher tier, and it does not wait for you to buy anything first. Create an account and the next board you walk past is free to read. After that snaps cost 2 credits each, and the full report on a property you have matched costs the usual 20, exactly as if you had pasted the link yourself.

Frequently asked questions

What if you cannot find the listing?
Then we say so plainly, and you still get the street brief: the asking prices on that street right now, how much stock is on the market nearby, and what the Guru has concluded about that suburb before. Not every board is online. Fresh mandates, private sales and boards left standing after a sale all happen, and none of them are your fault.
Does it recognise the house from the photo?
No, and we would rather be straight about why. Matching a facade against listing photos is unreliable in South Africa: cluster homes are built identical, boundary walls hide most of the house, and plenty of listings have no street photo at all. What works is reading the board and knowing where you are standing. The photo of the house is there so you can confirm the match yourself.
Do I need to give the app my location?
It works much better with it, because the coordinates are what narrow the search to your street. Without it we can still read the board and tell you the agency, agent and reference. You just will not get a shortlist of nearby listings.
What does it cost?
Your first snap each day is free, on any account, including a brand-new one with nothing on it. After that a snap costs 2 credits. Either way you are charged whether or not we find a listing, because the street brief is real work either way, and if a snap fails outright the credits go straight back. Running the full report on a property you have matched costs the usual 20 credits.
What happens to my photos?
They are attached to your own snap and nobody else can open them, which is why a snap is never link-shareable the way a report is. Delete the snap and the photos are deleted with it.
